Its a card game.
Canasta is based on the Rummy family of card games, with a few extra rules. It's played by 2 or more people playing individually, or by 4 people playing in pairs with 2 packs of cards and 4 jokers. It's played in a number of rounds which are scored, and the first person/team to score 5000 or more wins.
Can't play but want to give it a go? Not a problem, we'll teach you! We can accommodate learners any time.
Why do we play in Newhaven? We found a venue that had enough space, has great transport connections, and free, easy parking at the back of the venue. We do ask that any attendees at least buy a tea/coffee at some point in the afternoon. The venue is also licensed and serves food.
Transport:
- Tram to Newhaven, and then 5 min walk
- Buses No 11, 16 [Northbound] to Fishmarket Square - then 1 min walk
- No 7 [northbound] to Newhaven - then 5 min walk
- Car park - there is a car park at the back of the building accessed from Newhaven Place - car park is the 2nd left turning
- Street parking - free street parking on Pier Place
Accessibility : There is a ramp from street level to Pier House. Please email the group leader for details.
