Monthly Meeting: “The Roman Invasions of Scotland: Impact and Legacy"

Talk by Dr John Reid

Early Scotland was subjected to what in effect was three hundred years of near continuous conflict with the world’s first truly intercontinental empire and the archaeology of the south of Scotland reflects its war zone experience.

Our understanding of the nature and consequences of imperialism has matured in the last few decades and has allowed us to reassess this turbulent period of Scotland’s history.

Dr John Reid is Chair of Trimontium Trust. He has led on a wide variety of archaeological projects and also the award-winning redevelopment of Trimontium Museum in Melrose, the only museum in Scotland to focus on the Roman Iron Age.

There will be tea, coffee and biscuits after the talk.
