Interested in sharing and exploring memories of Edinburgh ?
Would you be interested in joining the Edinburgh Time Detectives, a proposed collaborative, cross-group pilot project for Edinburgh U3A that combines archive research, local history, and members' memories.
Purpose: To bring together members from various Edinburgh U3A groups to investigate aspects of Edinburgh's past using archive film, photographs, maps, and personal recollections.
Initial Pilot Focus: The first project will investigate an orphan silent cine film of Niddrie Brickworks sourced from the National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive.
Activities: Participants will analyse visual clues in the film, research brick-making history, consult historical maps and records, gather local memories, and ultimately produce an illustrated presentation and screening.
Cross-Group Collaboration: Led initially by the Moviemakers Group, the project invites participation from members interested in local history, photography, architecture, genealogy, and creative writing.
Proposed Next Steps:
- Host an initial, non-binding online exploratory meeting with any interested members.
- Form a temporary working group if there is sufficient interest to run the pilot and present the findings.
- Establish a model that could later be applied to other archive films and subjects.
If you are interested please contact the Group Coordinator at the link above.
